Disaster in the Kitchen
I just created the worst disaster in the kitchen. For some time now I have been wanting to try to make hummus from scratch. I have searched through several recipes, but everything seemed too complicated. A couple of weeks ago I found a recipe that only had 5 ingredients. Let me tell you, it was awful! I didn't take any pictures, but trust me, it was just a beige paste. At least the only investment was a can of garbanzo beans. I think I will look at some of the more complicated options or just keep buying it at the grocery store.

I've always wanted to make my own hummus as well and never even bothered to try to figure out how to do it. For some reason I'm thinking it would be so easy but maybe not now that I've heard your disaster. Did you process the beans and add some sesame oil... no, maybe it's some other kind of oil... I can't recall ...
anyway when you get it figured out I would love to have the recipe.
Well meems, I don't actually have a food processor, so I had to improvise. I used my blender which really is a smoothie maker, so that could have been a problem. I eventually just got out my mixer, but trust me it just tasted not good. I used olive oil...that is what every recipe I have seen uses. There is something that was definitely missing. I'll try again and when I get it right I will pass the recipe to you.
The mother of a friend of mine makes it... she is spanish... she is the one who told me what goes in it but I can't remember what she said. I'll have to try to track her down to ask again but I can tell you it definitely isn't olive oil... and you will probably need a processor for this... not sure a smoothie maker will get the job done. :-)
