What Life Would Be Like

I love music. There have been several new CDs and songs that have been released recently that are quickly becoming favorites. The chorus to one of the new Big Daddy Weave songs, "What Life Would Be Like," really hits something deep inside me.
He made the lame walk
And the dumb talk

He opened blinded eyes to see

That the sun rises on His time

Yet He knows our deepest desperate need

And the world waits

While His heart aches

To realize the dream

I wonder what life would be like
If we let JESUS live through you and me

Sometimes I forget how big God truly is. I think of Him as some being that sits far off. I forget that in the person of Jesus He walked this earth and He healed many people and performed so many miracles. Oh, how I need to be reminded how big God is. Then and only then will others see my big God in me.

(I looked for a video of the song to download, but only found a rough version on You Tube. This is a much better version, but I couldn't load it to the blog.)

Today's Questions

  1. How did I manage to forget to call Roger and Alisa and wish them a happy anniversary yesterday...even after commenting to Michelle on the phone that we both needed to call them?
  2. How did I manage to pack my gym bag with an array of things, several multiple items, and still some how forget socks?
  3. Why does the cashier at Publix always insist on rolling my apples down to the "bagger"? Does she not know the care that goes into picking those out?
  4. Why am I so tired at 9:30?
  5. How did I manage to burn my hand when cooking dinner?
  6. Will I actually get up tomorrow morning when my alarm goes off at 4:45 to jog?

Patience- Part II

Did you think I forgot? I have actually continued to search out Scriptures about patience and also used synonyms like "perseverance" and "forbearance". Bible Gateway has been a tremendous help in all of this.

Now, where were we?

Oh yes, lets begin where we left off.

Forbearance...which is "refraining from something, forbearing conduct or quality; patient endurance; self-control, an abstaining from the enforcement of a right."

So, can I interject at this point, I don't like it when a word is defined with a form of the exact same word. I mean, "forbearing conduct or quality" does not help me at all. I'm so glad that I got that off my chest.

Fortunately Dictionary.com does define forbearing- "to refrain or abstain from; desist from; to keep back; withhold; obsolete, to endure; to refrain, hold back; to be patient or self-controlled when subject to annoyance or provocation." I also found forbearance defined as "the act of waiting, the exercise of patience."

Interestingly, I found forbearance used three different times in Scripture (Romans 3:21-26, Hebrews 3:9, and Hebrews 5:1-3 all in the Amp. version) and in each instance it is talking about God's forbearance. I don't know if that is significant or not, but it does make me wonder.

While all this makes sense, it doesn't look any easier than being patient. Which reminds me of a song my nephew use to have to sing when he began to get inpatient.

"Have patience, have patience, don't be in such a hurry.
When you get impatient you only start to worry
Remember, remember that God is patient too
And, think of all the other times He's had to wait for you..."

Okay, He has had to wait on me a lot in my life. Maybe I should begin to sing this when I start to get impatient.

To be continued...

Bummer

I burned my dinner tonight. I don't do that very often, but occasionally I do. I "splurged" earlier at the grocery store and treated myself to a frozen pizza. I normally get a DiGiorno's, but I saved a $1.50 and bought the store's generic version. I've done this a couple of time and the crust never cooks right like tonight. I left it in the over for a few more minutes and came out burned to a crisp.

Next time I want pizza I'm calling Papa John's!

Flashback Friday...With a Twist

(I originally meant to get this up and ready last Friday, but alas, I am late. BUT if intentions were GOLD, then I would be RICH.)

Today, I am going back a little further than the 80s and there isn't a music video to accompany this week's flashback.

The year was 1943...August 22, 1943 to be exact...Elton Rice married Ruby Bonner or as I call them Papaw and Mamaw.

Last Friday they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Not only have they survived 65 years together, but World War II, raising a daughter, a Christmas tree fire, births of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, deaths of friends and family, sickness, blindness, Alzheimer's, and so much more. Through all the ups and downs, they have always been there, together.

I have fond memories of spending weeks at my grandparents during the summer...Racing my big wheel around their cul-de-sac, playing flashlight tag, trips to the park to pick up pine cones, and building towers with wooden spools. And of course their were trips to the ranch to help count cows, open gates, cook for the men who were bailing hay, and just ride on the tail gate of that old blue pick-up.

I am proud to be their granddaughter, and it was an honor to be there to celebrate such a special occasion.
